Sunday 7th June 2009
Well, it seems like forever since I’ve had time to even think about a blog.
Life has been traumatic for all of the Sun Machines this year. In my case those who know me will have seen that I’ve had a series of problems to deal with which have got in the way of moving Sun Machine ahead.
These have been days which many of you may recognise, where all you can see is blackness and you don’t dare to dream of a way ahead.
But for the moment (you never know) those days are gone.
The stampeding herd of elephants has moved away into the distance and life is good.
Even in the blackest six months I can remember we’ve not stood still, far from it.
Last weekend we did (nearly) the final touches to some new recordings which I’m really excited about. There are few keyboard bits I still have to do, but we’re then into mixing and off we go…
Live we’re moving ahead as well. We’ve been to a few different places this year as well as seeing some old friends. And we’re getting new friends as we play.
The Cheese and Grain was a highlight as ever and it’s the type of stage we were all born to play on. It’s just frustrating we don’t get to play in places like that all the time.
And the floodgates are opening. Now that the blinds are up, new ideas are queuing up to get developed, so although we have a quiet few months coming up gig-wise, we’re going to be busy with new songs as we’ve all got the writing bug.
Now Russ has set the iPod game in motion, and he is the undisputed King of Cool in such things (recently dubbed the Chippenham Kid – someone play ‘Riders on the Storm’!) He’s been too kind to publish my efforts, but here goes again.
The iPod game, TC-style (or lack of it):
‘Pure and Easy’ – the Who
‘Confusion’ – New Order
‘In Trance As Mission’ – Simple Minds
‘Black Magic Woman’ – Santana
‘Snake’ – P.J. Harvey
Suitably stung, Russ may now publish my last two efforts. I’m blushing already.
Until the next time…
Tim
